The Westminster Shorter Catechism, c. 1862

Ratified by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States at Augusta, Georgia, on December 4, 1861, and published in Richmond by the Presbyterian Committee of Publication.

This is a 1862 circulated reprint. Due to the shortage of paper and ink in the South during the war and the fragility & size of these pamphlets, this edition with original inscription is rather rare to come by. This is a surviving piece of ephemera from a foundational period of the Presbyterian Church in the then Confederate States, which had just formed after splitting from the northern Presbyterian church during the Civil War. 107 questions and answers of the catechism are discussed in this pamphlet. Interesting piece of history & gorgeous display piece, featuring ornate scroll border and string-bound parchment.

32 pages, 13.7 by 8.7 centimeters.

Inside has pencil mark margin notes throughout, removable if desired. The inside reads "My Dear Hallie, with the love of M.H.A" in ink and a pencil note at the bottom: "I trust that you will be a good girl."

Light signs of wear including dogears, pencil marks, wear to binding, and ink marks on last few pages. Please view all images. Considering age, this item is in good preowned condition.
